Which printers does it work with?
Ricoh multifunction printers whose address book can be edited from a browser, in practice the Aficio and MP models of the last fifteen years, and Kyocera TASKalfa and ECOSYS printers run by Command Center RX. Lanier, Nashuatec, Gestetner and Rex-Rotary are Ricoh printers sold under another name, and UTAX, Triumph-Adler and Olivetti d-Copia are Kyocera: Winkie sets them up the same way. On Kyocera, for now, without a fax card and without user authentication or job accounting; the wizard checks this before writing anything. Other makes are under evaluation; if you have a specific model, write to us. Winkie is an independent x3system product, not affiliated with or endorsed by the manufacturers.
Do I need FileZilla or another FTP server?
No. The FTP server is inside the Winkie service. If an old FileZilla from a previous setup is still on the PC, the wizard points it out.
What happens when the PC changes IP address?
The service detects it and rewrites the address-book entry with the new address, even with nobody logged in. It is the reason Winkie exists.
When is a use counted?
When the first scan reaches the PC: the Winkie service records it. Checks, failed attempts, reconfiguring the same PC and printers added to the same PC cost nothing.
Can I use one licence for several customers?
Yes. A licence holds a number of uses; every PC you set up spends one, in any office. Printers added to the same PC spend nothing. Uses left and top-ups are in the customer area; when one is left, we email you.
How do I pay?
In the customer area you choose how many uses you want and pay by card on the x3system quotation page: the uses reach your licence within minutes, and x3system issues the invoice. Prices exclude VAT.
Does Winkie send my documents anywhere?
No. Scanned files go from the printer to your PC on your network. Winkie talks to the internet for the licence, to look for updates and, unless you turn it off, for anonymous telemetry: never documents, file names, addresses or passwords (the privacy notice explains it).
What happens if I uninstall?
The installer removes everything it had added to the PC and asks whether to keep the scan folder. The destination stays on the printer; you can delete it from the panel.
